The College of Arts and Sciences at Wilberforce University announces a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level. The individual selected will concurrently serve as Director of the re-emerging music program. This is an opportunity for a creative and innovative music professional/educator/scholar to re-establish and build the music program at America’s First Private HBCU.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Wilberforce University is seeking a dynamic member of the faculty who will re-imagine our music program by concurrently serving as the Director of the emerging program. The visionary director will be responsible for teaching 2 courses per semester (half-teaching load) and re-establishing the world-recognized Wilberforce University Choir. The director of this position will report to the Vice President of Academic Affairs on curricular and programmatic matters and will have prime responsibility for Instruction, Assessment, and Program Review of the Music Curriculum at Wilberforce University. The Director will also create and grow the Wilberforce University Music Choir and will work with the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management to grow the Music Program at Wilberforce University. The Choir at Wilberforce University also serves as student ambassadors, representing the university at various strategic community engagement functions and events (both internal and external). The Director will lead, and travel with the choir, on such occasions.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master’s degree in Music from an accredited four-year university, with a strong record of music performance. At least two years of experience teaching music at the college level. Prior experience with curricular development, course and program review and program accreditation is also required.
