AIMS & PURPOSES

The division of Student Development and Enrollment Management will enact this mission through the development and implementation of a departmental model which aims to impact enrollment and retention through the creation of a seamless experience for each student from pre-enrollment through graduation and membership in the alumni community. The fusion of the primary co-curricular areas under one umbrella will provide a substantial opportunity for collaboration, innovation and the establishment of a program to complement students’ classroom experiences with out of class experiences, thereby furthering the overall mission of the university.

The four major components of SDEM are The Central Leadership Unit; The Office of the Dean of Students; The Office of Academic Support Services and Health and Counseling Services. The New Male Minority Health Partnership (NMMHP) is also housed in SDEM. Each area is responsible for an initiative that fits in the overall mission of the division. Each initiative represents a broad stroke set of goals and objectives, supported by clearly defined action steps which provide the framework by which the work is done to actualize the mission and vision of the division.

Initiative I

To provide a framework in which all co-curricular units work together to create a seamless experience for students as they transition throughout the educational pipeline form prospective student to alumni membership. The focus will be on maintaining a quality experience that supports students’ development and has equal focus on recruitment, retention and successful outcomes.

Initiative II

To provide a living and learning environment to meet the holistic needs of the students we serve. Through co-curricular experiences, such as, residential programs, student activities and judicial affairs, our goal is to promote learning and growth beyond the classroom in an environment which provides structure, as well as challenges and supports their efforts.

Initiative III

To partner with Academic Affairs by providing support to assist faculty and students with their out of classroom curricular matters. We will promote the message among students of personal responsibility and accountability in an effort to ensure that students are exposed to the various modes of support and enrichment that the university has to offer.

Initiative IV
To promote the importance of making healthy choices and living a healthy lifestyle. Through the use of health and wellness education and efforts from the health and wellness center, we will work to provide students with access and outlets to systems that meet their wellness needs.
