The Wilberforce University archives is a closed research collection maintained within the Wilberforce University Library. It is located on the upper level of the Library and is directed by Associate Librarian Jacqueline Y. Brown.
The Archives collections include printed materials, microforms, photographs, and other items relating to the history of Wilberforce University, the history of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and 19th century publications by or about African Americans.
Access is by appointment only. Contact Mrs. Brown at (937) 708-5277 to negotiate an appointment or for additional information. No materials from the Archives will be loaned. Queries made by mail, e-mail, or by telephone will be answered as time permits. Requests for assistance requiring extensive research cannot be fulfilled because of time and budget constraints. Charges are made for photocopying and for copies of photographs and must be paid in advance.
Visitors with appointments with the Archivist may not bring briefcases or other parcels into the Archives. Please bring you own cotton gloves, pencils, and notebooks. Some materials are too fragile to photocopy. Wilberforce University retains all of the copyrights to publications and information generated by the institution. Permission to use graphics and publications from the Archives must be negotiated with the University, beginning by contacting the Archivist.
