Advising
The Rehabilitation Services undergraduate degree is a
Bachelor of Arts program offered through the Division of
Rehabilitation Services and Disability Studies. It requires a
minimum of 128 semester credits. The curriculum is comprised of
three main course areas:
1) General Studies Core Courses,
2) Social Science Division Core Courses,
and
3) Major Requirements and Elective
Courses.
The Rehabilitation Services program provides students with
the knowledge and competencies to assist persons with disabilities
in many areas of life. The program prepares students for entry-level
positions in human services.
The curriculum includes four (4) Major Requirement Courses
that have a Service Learning component. These courses offer a
student the opportunity to work with persons with disabilities in
several different settings. The courses are:
REH 110: Substance Abuse and Chemical
Dependency;
REH 130: Mental Retardation and
Developmental Disabilities;
REH 280: Job Placement/Job Development;
and
REH 415: Facilitative Case Management.
Additionally, one (1) elective course: PSY 210: Psychology of
Aging is also a Service Learning course.
As freshmen, students will receive guidance in registering
for courses from Academic Support Services. Once they complete their
first year, all students will be assigned to an academic advisor who
will provide some guidance in helping students to select elective
courses and field experiences to match their career interests.
Additionally, academic advisors may work with students to help
students determine their own career path if students are undecided
in a particular career path.
Students are required to complete one (1) or
two (2) Co-op experiences while matriculating through Wilberforce
University (the number is based on status at time of entry into
Wilberforce University). Academic advisors assist students in
selecting a co-op experience that best fits the career goals of the
student. Students are encouraged to work closely with their academic
advisor in selecting and completing their co-op experiences.
