About
Undergraduate Program
The Undergraduate Rehabilitation Services Program is officially
registered on the Registry for the Council on Rehabilitation
Education (CORE) Fall 2004- Fall 2007.
The
Rehabilitation Services program provides students with the knowledge
and competencies to work with persons who have developmental,
physical, sensory, or emotional disabilities and/or chronic
diseases. The program prepares students for entry-level positions
with agencies and organizations providing services to persons with
disabilities. The program includes four service learning courses
where students are introduced and exposed to agencies and
organizations in the Xenia and Dayton area that serve persons with
disabilities. The service learning classes offer students the
opportunity to get some hands on experience with persons who have
disabilities.
Course content is focused on building knowledge and skills needed to
work with persons who have disabilities in a variety of settings.
The curriculum is infused with an emphasis on guiding persons with
disabilities to realize and reach their fullest potential in all
areas of life: interpersonal, social, psychologically, economically,
and vocationally. Additionally, options exist to provide students
with skills and competencies to pursue administrative and managerial
positions in various fields. Employment opportunities are available
in the following areas: state and private rehabilitation agencies,
social agencies, federal, state, and county agencies and facilities,
correctional programs and facilities, private and general hospitals,
agencies serving persons with mental illness, agencies serving
persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities,
sheltered workshops, and insurance companies.
