Admissions
General Admissions
Students seeking admission to the Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling
Program must first meet the admission requirements of
the Graduate Program. Students
also must apply to the MRC Program within six
weeks prior to the start of the student’s first term of enrollment
(Dead line:October 1 for Spring, April
1 for Fall).
(1) Completed requirements for a
bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university.
(2 *)
Submitted official copies of transcripts of
undergraduate and graduate hours earned.
Maintained a minimum
undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 2.70 (on a scale in
which 4.0 equals “A”) (conditional status).
(3 *) a completed Master of Rehabilitation Counseling Program
application form, Autobiographical Statement and letter requesting
acceptance into the Program,
(4 *) three letters of recommendation from professionals in
the related social service,
(5 *)
Non-refundable $25
application fee.
(6) an appearance for an interview with the MRC Director
prior to acceptance into the program.
Applicants are evaluated in the following criteria:
(a) academic performance and potential,
(b) career goals,
(c) personal characteristics,
(d) writing skills, and
(e) leadership ability.

Undergraduate
Students and Graduate Work
An
undergraduate who needs no more than 12 semester (or 10 semester
hours in the spring session) to complete all requirements for a
bachelor’s degree and who is not deficient in grade point may be
allowed to register for work to count for graduate credit under the
following conditions:
- That
the total registration for all work shall not exceed 15 semester
hours in a semester or 12 semester hours in the semester or
spring session;
- That all work for undergraduate
credit must be completed during that semester or spring;
- That
all work to be counted for graduate credit must be approved and
specified at the time of enrollment by the graduate advisor and
by the Dean/Director of the Graduate Program;
- That
such a student shall be considered to have graduate standing so
far as it required as a prerequisite for courses. (Note:
Graduate courses may not be used to meet undergraduate degree
requirements.)
Admission
of Foreign Students
To
be eligible for admission to the Graduate Program, a foreign student
must meet all of the requirements outlined above for a graduate
student. In addition to these requirements, a foreign student must
do the following:
1.
Make an acceptable score in the Test of English as a
foreign Language (TOEFL).
Information regarding this test may be obtained by writing the
Educational Testing Service, Box 899, Princeton, NJ 08540 or by
presenting a certificate of completion from a State Regents approved
English Program.
2.
Submit proof of financial ability to remain on the campus
long enough to complete degree requirements.
3. Prospective
students apply to the Graduate department of the
Admissions Office, and appointed admissions personnel and
faculty will screen the students to make sure students meet the
requirements. Each applicant’s packet will be reviewed by an
appointed personnel appointed by the admissions office and two
faculty members in the MRC department. The admission personnel will
make sure that the applicant meets the Graduate School’s admission
requirements, and the two faculty will ensure that the applicants
meets the requirement set by the MRC program.
