I am WU! Are you? is a radical campaign to call attention to the unique collection of people, individuals with their own identities, likes, interests, and talents that make up the whole of Wilberforce University. Sometimes all black colleges and universities get lumped together. When this happens, the real sense of diversity, individuality, and individual character of the people that comprise the whole gets lost. “I am WU! Are you?” is an effort to call attention to the students, alumni, professors, and administrators that ARE WU! You are already WU. You are either a current student, prospective student, or just part of our extended network of friends and supporters around the globe. African students and faculty, Americans from North America, Latin America, and South America, a smattering of Europeans, many Middle Easterners, and Asians from many nations are all WU. Not to mention, we have students from 38 states and the District of Columbia. WU is an experience, a deeply personal experience, where you are encouraged to bring your heart, head, soul, and whole person to a brand new experience. While the WU experience gets started in Ohio, it is actually a global undertaking. We have produced presidents of nations, members of Congress, famous jazz musicians, humanitarians, presidents and CEOs of huge corporations, leaders of local communities and churches, educators, freedom fighters, mega-church pastors, Bishops of many churches, and just plain old quality people for over 151 years. Why are you WU? You ARE WU because you not only dream about a better world, you are trying to actively create a better world for all people. Through education and spiritual engagement, WU and its many parts are involved in projects like rebuilding New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, development of alternative energy and renewable fuels at the US Department of Energy, writing about the threats of global terrorism in the nation’s capital, working on Wall Street to ensure a healthy global economy, conducting research on healthy and safe water at the Environmental Protection Agency. You are WU when you are at your best. When you stretch the limits of your imagination, help people, strengthen yourself, and reflect the finest values of this “beloved community” you are WU. When you join a frat or a sorority and do not change your friends and embrace others in other organizations, you are WU. You are WU when a neighbor’s children look for a great education and you recommend WU, you are WU! The WU experience, a journey to your future, is a lasting, life-long quest. Join us as we become more and more WU. Apply yourself and realize the WU in you! |
