The University has long recognized the need for assisting students and their families in meeting the costs of higher education. The administration and management of federal and state funded student financial assistance at Wilberforce University is predicted on the principle that all those who may profit from attending the college shall be extended "equal educational opportunity" and equal access" to its facilities, curricula and co-curricula offerings, activities and student services.
It should be understood, however, that financial assistance is not, and should not be, interpreted as a substitute for the family's inherent responsibility to educate its children.
Education is a primary parental obligation; therefore, responsibility for the financing of a college education remains with the student and his/her parents. Notwithstanding, it is often necessary to seek other sources of funds. For this reason, Wilberforce University provides access to facilities which will assist the student and his/her parents to meet the remaining cost of that student's education.
The availability of financial resources determines the extent to which the University attempts to bridge the gap of financial need.
Student participation in the financial Assistance Programs administered by the Wilberforce University Financial Aid Office is without regard to race, religion, sex, or ethnic origin and is based upon individual compliance with established program guidelines. Students may specify the program for which they wish to be considered. However, each student's application shall be considered automatically for assistance under each program for which he/she is qualified.
Applications for financial assistance are generally subject to the following variables:
- You will have to be admitted before your application is reviewed, regardless of date of receipt of your application for financial aid.
- Your application will have to be completed before it is reviewed (all items must be on file as specified in the following pages).
- You must accept you award letter by turning in the signed acceptance within the specified grace period before it becomes valid.
- Admission to the University does not mean that the applicant is guaranteed aid.
