Wilberforce University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) to award Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. This accreditation affirms that Wilberforce University continues to provide quality educational programs and services to students. The next reaffirmation is scheduled for 2014-2015.
On June 23, 2014, the institution was informed that the HLC Board of Trustees (“Board”) issued a Show-Cause Order to the University at its meeting on June 12th. In issuing the Order, the Board considered the focus visit team report, Institutional Actions Council (IAC) hearing committee report, Wilberforce’s responses to HLC documents, evaluation materials, and other related information in the institution’s file with HLC. The University is required to present its case for accreditation by means of a Show-Cause Report due December 15, 2014 and host a Show-Cause visit in February 2015.
What does Show-Cause mean? Show-Cause is a procedural order requiring an institution to present its case as to why accreditation should not be withdrawn. The Show-Cause Order must be resolved within one year, commencing with the date the Board issued the Order. During the Show-Cause period, the institution remains accredited and it has an opportunity to present its case as to why accreditation should not be withdrawn.
