Director of Residence Life

Ms. Jacquelyn Thurman, a Veteran of the United States Navy, began her path in Student Affairs as a Campus Police Dispatcher at Xavier University (OH) where she received her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts with a Minor in Business Management and Criminal Justice. During her undergraduate years at Xavier, she served as President and Legislative Vice-President for the Black Student Association, as well as, a member on the Contemporary Task Force, Facilities Planning Board and the Greek Life Committee. As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she is a Charter Member of the Rho Psi Chapter at Xavier University and served as President and Treasurer for the chapter.

 Ms. Thurman later transitioned into Residence Life and Student Housing as a Resident Assistant and Hall Director at Kentucky State University while pursuing her Master's Degree in Public Administration specializing in Human Resource Management. Also during her time at KSU she served as an Advisor for the NAACP Chapter and was awarded a full academic scholarship to study abroad in Cameroon, West Africa.

As a first generation college graduate, Thurman lives by the motto of "Success is a result of personal responsibility, servant leadership, and establishing one's own legacy." She believes each person has the potential to lead and to understand that you protect others that choose to follow. Each person must understand that character is tested by the commitment to the choices we make. Finally, once your time on this earth has ended, it is your legacy that will speak to those rationalizations offered for why things weren't accomplished due to the lack of but instead your ability to do something great despite of.

Ms. Thurman brings with her over fifteen years of varied experiences in community student development, first-year experience programming, campus security, retention efforts, student organizations advising and support, and leadership development to Wilberforce University.

As a member of the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Management for Wilberforce University, Ms. Thurman is responsible for the leadership, development, administration and operation of the Residence Life Department that supports the vision of the university.
