Travis McAvene
McAvene recently came from Coppin State University (NCAA Division I), where he worked under legendary coach Ron “Fang” Mitchell. McAvene served as recruiting coordinator and assistant coach during the 2006-2007 season. McAvene holds a very impressive basketball coaching background. As a head men’s prep school coach, McAvene won back to back NACA National Championships in 2003 and 2004 at New Creations Prep. McAvene turned the small private school into a known national powerhouse program. In 2005 and 2006, McAvene’s teams went 30-4 both years & finished National Runner-Ups. In 2005, McAvene’s team at Harmony Prep set a state and national high school record for most points scored in a game with 144 points. From 2002-2006, Coach McAvene produced and sent over 15 players to the NCAA Division I level. McAvene will run a very exciting brand of basketball, which will be extremely fast and up-tempo. McAvene’s coaching philosophy comes from former legendary coaches, Noland Richardson (Arkansas) and Paul Westhead (Loyola Marymount). McAvene played his college basketball from 1994-1998 at Sinclair Community College, Indiana Wesleyan University, and Taylor University. McAvene resides in Dayton, Ohio and has a daughter, Jada.
