Wilberforce University
As the Dean of Student Affairs, I welcome you to Wilberforce University. We are here to serve you. The mission of this Office is to provide leadership and coordination to programs focused on the adjustment, success and retention of Wilberforce University students. It is the mission of this office to operate an "Open Door Policy" that will be available to all students, traditional and non-traditional, those both on and off campus. The overall goal is to foster intellectual, social, physical, emotional and spiritual development. By fulfilling our mission, we will produce model citizens reflective of the ultimate mission of the University.
· Improve the New Students Orientation process by assisting new students in successfully making the transition to WU from high school or another institution. The program will consist of more activities, including diagnostic testing, academic advising, and opportunities for new students and parents to become familiar with the history, policies, practices and traditions of WU.
· Implement new activities and opportunities with educational experiences beyond the classroom.
· The Office of the Chaplain will ensure that the Office of the University Chaplain coordinates all of the University's religious life services and programs. This will provide a spiritual and moral foundation that complements intellectual, academic, and personal/social development. Religious life services will include religious education, worship service, our annual Ignite the Spirit Revival, vocational guidance, and support ministries working in concert with local ministers and other spiritual leaders of our tradition.
· Ensure that the recreational/intramural program offers recreational opportunities for residential, commuter, and non-traditional students. The program will include intramural sports, such as basketball, softball, flag football and volleyball, as well as aerobics and martial arts.
· Empower Greek-letter fraternities and sororities to play a more active role on the WU campus, and contribute to the cultural, scholastic, political, service, and social life of the University. This will provide another vehicle for student leadership opportunities.
· Conduct workshops that will encourage the Student Governmetn Association to speak for the student body and utilize the officers and the presidents of all recognized student organizations, which is the executive arm of student government. They represent the student body in its formal relations with the administration, faculty, other institutions and the public.
· To organize and promote an athletic program that will generate revenue, promote school spirit, further develop good sportsmanship and build school moral.
