HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION (HSA)

Major Overview
At Wilberforce Universitythe Health Services Administration (HSA) programis placed within the Professional Studies Division of the academic area. If you choose to major in Health Services Administration, you will prepare yourself for a robust career path in the various aspects of management of health care facilities and the services they provide.

We provide our students with a foundation in financial management, human resources, health care issues and policy making related to overseeing organizations such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, public and environmental health agencies, etc. Health Care is a growing area with plentiful jobs even in the current economic climate.

Faculty:
Faculty who teach in HSA include current practitioners in the health care arena who teach on an adjunct basis, as well as Wilberforce faculty who teach in related areas such as Business Management, and the Natural Sciences. For further information, please contact:

As you can see from the above, HSA students have to take a variety of classes, not just in Health Services, but also in related areas such as Business and Biology and Food Science.

Research Opportunities:
Research opportunities exist for the motivated students through two mandatory internship placements which allow for practical, hands-on experience, as well as through the individualized Senior Seminar course and other venues.

Special Interest Story:
At Wilberforce University, most of the courses in the HSA major are taught in small classes by instructors with real experience in the profession, allowing much opportunity for discussion and exposure to practical applications.

When our students graduate they will have had real experience in the field, due to our required internship (CO-OP) program, which has placed our students in internships at VA Hospitals, Children’s Hospitals in Ohio, LA Plastic Surgery, the EPA and other Health Management Providers.
